Register and enroll for the examination through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) on the official GATE 2027 website. It is recommended to create a verified DigiLocker account for a smoother registration process.

The online application portal for GATE 2027 opens on August 14, 2026. The regular period for application submission closes on September 21, 2026, while the extended period with a late fee ends on September 30, 2026. The GATE 2027 examinations will be conducted on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21, 2027. Results are scheduled to be announced on March 19, 2027.
For Female, SC, ST, and PwD candidates, the application fee is ₹1000 during the regular period (August 14 – September 21, 2026) and ₹1500 during the extended period (September 22 – September 30, 2026). For all other candidates, including foreign nationals, the fee is ₹2000 during the regular period and ₹2500 during the extended period. If a candidate opts to appear for two test papers, the fee payable will be twice that of a single paper.
Candidates currently studying in the third or higher years of any undergraduate degree program, or those who have already completed any UGC/AICTE approved degree program in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities, are eligible. This also includes candidates in the 5th/6th/7th semester or higher of M.B.B.S./B.D.S./B.V.Sc./B.Sc. (Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry) degrees. There is no age limit to appear for GATE 2027.
GATE 2027 is a Computer Based Test (CBT) of 3 hours duration, conducted in English. Each test paper consists of 65 questions for a total of 100 marks. The questions include Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. There is negative marking for wrong answers to MCQs (1/3rd for 1-mark questions and 2/3rd for 2-mark questions), but no negative marking for MSQ and NAT questions.
A candidate is allowed to appear for either one or two test papers. If choosing two papers, the combination must be selected from the specific list of allowed two-test paper combinations provided in the GATE 2027 information brochure.
A GATE qualification can lead to admission with potential financial assistance (scholarship/assistantship) to Master's and Direct Doctoral programs in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, and Humanities at institutions supported by the Ministry of Education (MoE). Additionally, many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) utilize GATE scores as a criterion for their recruitment processes, offering employment opportunities in various government sectors.
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) is the Organizing Institute (OI) for GATE 2027, responsible for the overall coordination and conduct of the examination.
The GATE 2027 score will remain valid for a period of THREE years from the date of announcement of the results.
