Candidates are required to apply online only by using the Commission’s website https://upsconline.nic.in.
Register on the Online Application Portal to generate a Universal Registration Number (URN), which is common for all UPSC examinations.
Fill the Examination Specific Form, including details for fees and examination centre, to generate an Application Number.
Upload a photograph (live capture required) and three signatures (one below the other) on a plain white paper using black ink, ensuring they are clear and legible.
Provide details of one Photo ID (e.g., Aadhaar Card, Voter Card, PAN Card, Passport, Driving License), preferably an Aadhaar Card, which will be used for all future references and must be carried to the examination.

The online applications for the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2027 can be filled up to 22nd September, 2026 till 18:00 Hours.
The Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Examination 2027 is scheduled to be held on 10th January, 2027.
The Combined Geo-Scientist (Main) Examination 2027 will be held on 19th & 20th June, 2027.
The selection process consists of three successive stages: Stage-I (Preliminary Examination - Objective Type), Stage-II (Main Examination - Descriptive Type), and Stage-III (Personality Test/Interview).
Yes, there will be a penalty (Negative Marking) for wrong answers in the Objective Type Question Papers. One-third of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted for each wrong answer.
The Preliminary Examination carries 400 marks, the Main Examination carries 600 marks, and the Personality Test/Interview carries 200 marks. Marks from both Preliminary and Main Examinations are counted for final merit.
Candidates generally require a Master of Science or Master of Science (Tech) or Integrated Master of Science in relevant fields such as Geology, Geophysics, Chemistry, Hydrogeology, Physics, or Applied Physics from a recognized University or Institute. Specific requirements vary by post.

Non-Programmable type Pocket Calculators are allowed in the Descriptive/Conventional Type Papers of the Main Examination (Stage-II). However, calculators are not permitted for the Objective Type Papers of the Preliminary Examination (Stage-I).
