Candidates must be between 18 and 40 years of age as of the last date of application submission, with permissible age relaxations for SC/ST (5 years), OBC (3 years), PwBD (10 years), PwBD+OBC (13 years), and PwBD+SC/ST (15 years). The minimum educational qualification is a Secondary School Examination (10th standard) pass certificate with passing marks in Mathematics and English from a recognized Board. Applicants must also have studied the local language up to the 10th standard. Other essential qualifications include knowledge of computers, cycling, and adequate means of livelihood.
The Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) are paid Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA). The initial engagement basic TRCA slabs are: - Branch Postmaster (BPM): Rs.12,000/- to Rs.29,380/- per month - Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)/Dak Sevak: Rs.10,000/- to Rs.24,470/- per month Additionally, GDSs are entitled to Dearness Allowance (DA) on TRCA, along with other allowances and social security benefits as per GDS Rules.
The selection process for India Post GDS is purely merit-based, determined by a system-generated merit list. This list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the 10th standard Secondary School Examination. There is no written examination. Shortlisted candidates will then undergo physical verification of original documents, followed by pre-engagement formalities (including basic training), and provisional engagement, leading to final engagement upon satisfactory verification reports.

They must also arrange accommodation for the B.O. - **Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM):** Assists the BPM in postal operations, including sale of stamps/stationery, mail conveyance and delivery, IPPB transactions, and marketing of departmental products. - **Dak Sevak:** Engaged in various Post Offices, Sorting Offices, Mail Offices, etc., for duties such as selling stamps/stationery, mail conveyance and delivery, IPPB transactions, handling mail bags/parcels, and assisting Postmasters/Sub-Postmasters.
